Downloaded a trial version of SilverEfex Pro from NikSoftware. This Lightroom plugin (there is also a version for Apple Aperture and Adobe Photoshop). It allows you to do B&W conversion and simulate various film stock from the days gone by. It also has control points like Nikon’s Capture NX. After all it’s been done by the same people.
Here is a photo I took the other day. Used remote flash, camera left, triggered by CLS. After importing it to Lightroom, I converted it to B&W using SilverEfex Pro. Here is the result. I have a feeling that this software will become my friend for a long time.

Source: Adobe Labs – Adobe Lightroom 2.0 Beta:

Lightroom 2.0 beta builds on the success of the first Lightroom beta program and provides photographers with early access to our next release so that you can kick the tires and ensure that this release meets your needs.
Enhancements that can be found in the Lightroom 2.0 beta include the following -

Localized corrections

Improved organizational tools

Multiple monitor support

Flexible print package functionality

64-bit support

Read the release note for more details.

This is a very good news. The only thing that Capture NX has going for it, apart from being able to read and use camera settings, is the control points. Now it looks like the playing field is about to change.

Have a look at a quick overview of the new features (with screen shoots) on the Photoshop User site.
