Well, this is not entirely true. I knew that already but one has to start a post somehow. I thought that with today being 31st of December, the last day of the year, I will post the total of the photos I have managed to shoot over the years gone by. Last decade to be exact.

It all started in 1998 with one of the first digital cameras from Apple. In December 1999 I got my first P&S. In 2000 I bought a Canon PowerShot G1. In 2006 I’ve made a switch to DSLR (Nikon D50). 2009 saw an arrival of my Nikon D700. 2003 to 2005 were quite busy and difficult years for me. Isn’t it funny/strange how what people go through in life could be analysed by looking at the number of photographs one takes? Well, in my case anyway I can see a steady increase since the switch to DSLR.

What I find quite interesting is that you can observe the mirror slap and its vibration as well as the behavior of the aperture blades and shutter curtain. It never occurred to me how fragile they are. Just watch them move and vibrate.

How to make the notes disappear: Sometimes the notes do not disappear due to a small flaw (or feature?) in flickr. To make them disappear, first put the cursor over a portion of the picture not covered by a note (I created a space at the bottom, which I have to constantly keep clear. It seems to be a little too enticing for some people), then move the cursor off of the picture without passing over another note. Or just view it large.

Waves bouncing off of the seawall at the south end of “Victoria Beach” in Laguna Beach, California, rebound into oncoming waves to create a beautiful and turbulent water playground.

Note on watermark: Some people have noticed the watermark changing. I have been experimenting…trying to find the most minimally intrusive version that will still prevent the image from being stolen (again). Hope this one is not too obnoxious.

Featured on Yahoo! Top Searches of 2006.

Added to the Cream of the Crop pool as my most favorited photo.

Got the second-lamest anti-photography excuse ever from a concierge in this building:

“You can’t take photos of the building because we have a body corporate.”

Told her I could shoot whatever I liked as long as I wasn’t trespassing, and we both went on our merry ways. I suppose I should give her credit for not using The Lamest Excuse (ie anything including the word “terrorism”), but sheesh – what is wrong with businesses in Southbank?

With the hotels and retail areas so heavily dependent on tourism dollars, why are they so keen on attitudes that seem perfect for alienating camera-toting tourists?
